Project Overview
On Tuesday 27th November 2012, the River Elwy experienced a major flood incident that caused the death of a 91-year-old and damage to over four hundred properties. The flood walls were rebuilt in part using Procter Cast Stone products.
The client needed a cost-effective solution versus natural stone. The products needed to be aesthetically pleasing and easy to blend in with existing stone whilst also being robust enough to withstand potential future flood issues.
We manufactured robust bespoke wall copings and facing blocks with a textured appearance. Having had previous experience with working on many flood alleviation schemes throughout the UK, we worked closely with the specifiers and our client to ensure that the stone was functional as well as sympathetic to the environment. During the time spent on this project, we supplied over 350,000.00 tonnes of stone for this project that will serve to protect the residents for years to come.
The first few months of 2020 brought with it a couple of storms which devastated towns across the UK. The flood defenses provided by us in 2017 to North Wales helped hold back the floods despite the heavy rain and strong winds from Storm Ciara. It was said that without the defenses “everywhere would have been flooded.” and that “The flood defences did work.”
